The Name

Gulenoor. A flower from Noor's garden. Noor means light in Arabic, Urdu, Persian. The flower that grows from light is not delicate. It has come through fire to get there.

Life does not ask permission. An incident, a moment, and the people you counted on disappear. The life you built is suddenly gone. You find yourself in a turbulent world you no longer recognise.

Gulenoor began that way. With a woman who had lost the support she had been brought up believing she would always have, who was told in a hundred direct and indirect ways that a good woman fulfills expectations, and does not ask anything for herself.

At a time when her world fell apart, she made a dress because someone asked. She made it the way she did everything: with faith, with her whole self, with nothing held back. She couldn't give up because she had daughters who needed her. That was the beginning.

That is Gulenoor. It is her story, and it is also your story.

Because there is a garden inside every person who has ever had to rebuild themselves. It is not always a peaceful place. It has calm in it and turbulence in it and grief in it and growth in it. Sometimes all at once.
